SOBEPACK is committed to sustainable agricultural packaging in Benin by producing egg trays from 95% recycled cardboard. With this local, eco-friendly solution, the project replaces imported plastic trays, creates new jobs for women and young people, and contributes to a cleaner, circular economy. In doing so, SOBEPACK strengthens food safety, promotes local entrepreneurship, and helps build a sustainable future.
SOBEPACK was founded in 2017 by Charles Benissan and is based in Cotonou, Benin. The company produces corrugated cardboard and aims to expand its activities into the production of egg trays from recycled cardboard. SOBEPACK focuses on sustainable packaging solutions for the agro-industrial sector, combining production with custom work and visual design. With a current team of 8 employees (planned growth of 16), SOBEPACK is building a future where eco-friendly packaging is the standard
SOBEPACK is investing in a new production facility and an automatic machine that manufactures egg trays from recycled cardboard. This project responds to the growing demand for local egg packaging, reinforced by new government measures restricting the import of chicken and egg products.
WITH THIS INVESTMENT, SOBEPACK AIMS TO:
• Launch local production of egg trays as a sustainable alternative to imported plastic trays
• Optimise the processing of cardboard waste through 95% recycling
• Create employment: expanding from 15 to 31 direct jobs and up to 50 indirect jobs
• Contribute to improved hygiene and transport safety of eggs in Benin.
SOBEPACK has a proven track record in cardboard production and an experienced management team open to innovation and improvement. The project is well-supported by market research and aligns with growing local demand driven by government measures. The focus on sustainability, such as a high recycling rate and water savings, closely aligns with the SDG’s that OVO stands for. This project not only has a strong economic foundation, but also a positive social impact, with additional employment and eco-friendly production
SOBEPACK is seeking an investment of **€ 63.000 for:
• Construction of a new production facility (hangar + infrastructure)
• Purchase of an automatic egg tray machine
• Expansion of staff and supporting facilities
The total investment amounts to approximately € 93,290, of which SOBEPACK contributes €30,800 from its own resources. The loan repayment period is 3 years, with a one-year grace period
