Help quinoa farmers in Ecuador become self-sustaining

Wealth is very unevenly distributed in Ecuador. Only about 1% of the population could enjoy the benefits of the growth seen in recent years. This inequality arises mainly from the distribution of land ownership. Small quinoa farmers in the poor province of Chimborazo in the central highlands of the Andes mountains didn’t let this stand in their way. They stood together and set up the Coprobich cooperative. By joining forces, the 565 members find it easier to obtain finance, produce more efficiently and find it easier to access to the market, among other things.

SOCIAL IMPACT

In 2017, 565 quinoa farmers were members of the Coprobich cooperative. On average these family farmers have a farming area of about 1.2 ha in the mountainous area of Chimborazo. The crops yielded by their land often aren’t enough to meet their basic needs. By supporting these quinoa farmers, we give them the opportunities they deserve through and through!
